Determined to be reunited with her family, Aydan and a disbelieving Brig accompany Rein on a harrowing journey to the Door to the other world. Only tragedy befalls Aydan again on the journey and the new world that she believes will be her salvation is rife with its own political intrigues that threaten to destroy Aydan.
As soon as I started reading Shrilugh pronounced Shree-loo I was hooked. I could not put the book down and stayed up way past bedtime needing to know what happens next. Myndi Shafer has created two rich, vibrant worlds and I was especially loved the mix of the archaic and modern once we were introduced to Rein's world.

Lady Sings The Boos
Shrilugh evokes a lot of emotion during the course of the book and even though there's tragedy, there's also triumph and love. The book ends with a lot of questions unanswered, but never fear Book 2, The Darkening, has been released so you can and should continue the saga immediately. Note: I received an e-copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. Relegated to the basement library, she seeks some way to assert herself and find her place. Great job, Myndi!! Christy Dorrity reviewed on on Dec. I love it when I find a gem of a book that is struggling to come to light. Shirlugh is one of those books that I'm thrilled to bring to your attention.
With romance, adventure, danger, emotion and otherworldliness, this is just the kind of book I like to recommend. Put this one on your to read book, right now! There is real danger here, with emotional impact. Aydan, the heroine of the story loses here eye in the first part of the book, by the hand of her sister, no less. And there are too men in her life, the loyal and cute Brig that I dare you to try not to fall in love with, and the secretive and edgy Rein, whose past binds him so tightly to Aydan that you will be routing for him before the end. I love stories that make me feel deeply.
There are plenty of dilemmas that have emotional impact in Shirlugh. I so hurt for Aydan when she left her world. I love Rein's world, with it's glowing Shirlugh trees and unique ways. It is a blend of Victorian society and modern ways that give it a romantic, yet contemporary feel. There were a few formatting issues in the ebook, and passive writing scattered throughout. But I easily forgave these small imperfections as I was drawn into Ayden's world. Shafer has a talent for storytelling, creating a sense of place and evoking emotion. I'll definitely be watching for more from this author.
Jennifer L. Oliver reviewed on on Oct. Ever start reading a book and you just can't put it down? Or if you do, your thoughts stay in the story until you are able to read more? Shrilugh was that book for me. I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning because I just had to finish reading it. The story has a good pace and immediately pulls you into Aydan's world.
I can't wait to read the next book! Coleen Patrick reviewed on on Sep.
I love a story that takes me on an emotional journey and Shrilugh does just that. It has two worlds, love and characters that stay with you long after you close the book. I'm looking forward to book two! Janae Griebel reviewed on on Aug. As an avid reader, I have a short list of authors whom I can always depend on to write a captivating tale, allowing me an escape from everyday life.
Shrilugh is a terrific story filled with amazing imagery and fascinating characters. Every page found me entranced by the events and the characters. I have read countless books that, while interesting enough to keep me reading until the end, have failed to garner my empathy for the characters in the book. Myndi has achieved exactly that. I truly cared about the main characters and felt many of the same emotions as the characters.
Already looking forward to Book Two of the Shrilugh series!
